Last-lap pass lifts Beard at Batesville
Kyle Beard picked up third win of the year in thrilling fashion on Friday night at Batesville Motor Speedway. Making a last-lap pass for the lead in his Gary Beard Trucking No. 86 Mann Motorsports / Capital Race Cars/ Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model, Beard raced to the $3,000 victory with the COMP Cams Super Dirt Series.
“I was just trying to save everything until the end,” said Beard, who found the outside line after seeing Terry Phillips there. “I wasn’t paying attention and almost waited too late. Thankfully I found it on the last lap and got the win. We’ve got a fast car right now, and I really appreciate my family, my crew, and my sponsors for everything they do for me."
On Thursday afternoon Kyle Beard visited I-30 Speedway (Little Rock, Ark.) for the COMP Cams Super Dirt Series (CCSDS)-sanctioned Rockabilly 45. Drawing 27 cars, Kyle secured his spot into the opening night feature with a runner-up finish in his heat race. Passing four cars in the 45-lap affair, Beard posted a fourth-place finish. He followed Timothy Culp, Brian Rickman, and Logan Martin across the line with Hunter Rasdon coming in fifth.
For the second stop of the weekend on Friday at Batesville Motor Speedway (Batesville, Ark.), Beard's runner-up finish in his heat positioned him fifth on the starting grid for the main event. Closing in on race-long leader Logan Martin in the waning laps, Kyle snuck ahead of Martin on the final circuit to secure his third win of the season and 19th-career CCSDS triumph. He finished ahead of Martin, B.J. Robinson, Morgan Bagley, and Hunter Rasdon to claim $3,000.
For the Larry Phillips Memorial on Sunday at Legit Speedway Park (West Plains, Mo.), Beard locked into a front-row starting spot for the $5,000-to-win A-Main with a heat race win. Unfortunately, Mother Nature made an appearance before the start of the feature and washed out the finale.
Kyle remains in fourth in the latest CCSDS point standings.
